Transport Minister, Mr. Radovan Žerjav, visited Lisbon on 22 and 23 October to attend two EU ministerial conferences: the conference on the Maritime Policy of the EU and the conference on Motorways of the Sea and Logistics.

The conference on Maritime Policy of the EU, during which the Member States expressed their views and shared their positions regarding the Green Paper on Maritime Policy and the Action plan on the European Maritime Policy, saw the participation of the president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates and the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affaires Joe Borg. Mr. Žerjav delivered closing speech in this conference.

The main topic of the second conference entitled “Motorways of the Sea and Logistics”, which took place on Tuesday, was the developing concept of the motorways of the sea, which should, together with short sea shipping, provide the Common European Space with high-quality, environmentally friendly, safe and reliable deliveries of goods.

Alongside the conference, Mr. Minister had a separate meeting with Joe Borg, the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs. They exchanged their views on the guidelines provided by the Green Paper on Maritime Affairs with regard to the Common Maritime Policy. Mr. Žerjav also met the Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications Algirdas Butkevičius, with whom he discussed the priorities of the incoming Slovenian presidency for the field of transport.
