Minister Patrick Vlačič holds talks with Hungarian State Secretary Pál Völner in Budapest

The Slovenian Minister of Transport, Dr Patrick Vlačič, today in Budapest met with the State Secretary for Transport at the Hungarian Ministry of National Development, Mr Pál Völner. They exchanged positions and opinions on topical issues in transport both between the two countries and within the context of the European Union.

The talks focused on the further development of railway infrastructure between Slovenia and Hungary, namely the project for the modernisation of the railway line Pragersko-Hodoš and the potential railway connection between Beltinci-Lendava and Lendava-Rédics.
Minister Vlačič informed State Secretary Völner of Slovenia's activities within the project for modernising the Pragersko-Hodoš line. They agreed that this railway line is essential for an increase in the transhipment of Hungarian goods through the Port of Koper.
Minister Vlačič suggested that activities for the railway connection Beltinci-Lendava-state border-Rédics-Zalaegerszeg continue within the framework of a commission composed of experts from their two ministries and with a specific task of preparing a prefeasibility study. On the basis of this study, Slovenia and Hungary can submit proposals for this project and for the inclusion of this railway connection in priority project no. 6.

In light of Hungary's EU Council Presidency in 2011, the Minister and State Secretary also discussed current EU transport issues.
