Minister Vlačič in China

The Slovenian Minister of Transport, Dr Patrick Vlačič, is currently attending the 7th UIC-World Congress on High-Speed Rail, in Beijing, China.

It is no coincidence that this year's Congress on High Speed Rail is taking place outside Europe. In recent years, Chinese railways have become the leading force in the area of development, construction and production of high speed trains and in other branches in the field of high-speed rail.  Global mobility trends show that high speed rail is becoming an increasingly important mode of transport and its development represents the future of railway transport and transport in general, also in line with the orientation towards a green alternative.

During the Congress, two debates will be organised, entitled: "High Speed Rail Towards the Future" and "High Speed Rail Innovations ". The Slovenian Minister of Transport, Dr Patrick Vlačič, is actively taking part in both debates. He also sees his participation at the Congress as an opportunity for the continuation of discussions on specific cooperation with the Chinese side in the area of railway infrastructure.

On the fringes of the Congress, Minister Vlačič also met the Minister of Railways of China, Liu Zhijun, and the Chinese Minister of Transport, Li Shenglin. Their talks focused in particular on Slovenia's intention to attract Chinese investments in various projects related to building new infrastructure in our country. Mr Zhijun and Mr Vlačič also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Area of Railways between the Ministry of Railways of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Slovenia.
