Omerzel Talks of Pan-European Transport Grid with EU Commissioner

Luxembourg, 10 June - Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Minister Samo Omerzel spoke to European Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas on the sidelines of an EU transport ministerial on Monday, focusing on the pan-European transport network and the implementation of EU rules in Slovenia, the Infrastructure and Spatial Planning Ministry wrote.

In his talks with the EU commissioner, Omrzel expressed support especially for the focus on the introduction of intelligent transportation system (ITS) and unified systems (unified tickets).

In the session of ministers, discussing a common approach to interoperability of the EU railway system, Omrzel highlighted the need for transparency in fees charged by the European Railway Agency (ERA) and competent and independent management of disagreements between the agency and relevant national bodies.

In a discussion on inspection of commercial road vehicles, Omerzel advocated an inclusion of light goods vehicles (N1 category) in inspections, since Slovenia is witnessing an increase in such vehicles, especially in transit.
As many members disagreed with such an inclusion in the EU's common approach, they agreed that an obligation to such inspections may be regulated on the national level.
