Decision adopted on allocation of funds for Murska Sobota southern bypass

The Ministry of Infrastructure has received a decision from the Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy on support for the project of construction of the first stage of the eastern bypass in Murska Sobota, an investment worth EUR 9.86 million. The project is a part of the Operational Programme for the Implementation of European Cohesion Policy 2014-2020, and will receive EUR 5.12 million in co-financing funds from the European Regional Development Fund.

The southern bypass will run across relatively flat terrain between the left bank of the Lendava-Mura flood relief channel and the eastern edge of Murska Sobota between Panonska cesta and the Plese district. The road in question is a continuation of the already built part of the southern bypass past the intersection with Tomšičeva ulica.

The construction of the entire bypass (stages 1 and 2) will significantly improve traffic conditions in Murska Sobota, as the new bypass will receive a large part of the traffic through the town and ease the traffic on Industrijska, Panonska and Lendavska streets. The planned system of bypasses will also allow faster, easier and safer motorway access from the town. The project is planned to be completed in the summer of 2018.
